Unwind this Weekend!

After a busy week for the project preparation, I did not manage to focus at night for personal study time....I had initially wanted to do more this weekdays' nights so that I could enjoy myself for the super long weekend! Kok Sung's coming over and I look forward to seeing him after 2 months! We shall be visiting Princess Diana's Memorial Park and enjoy an afternoon theatre show. Windsor Castle seems to be a great place to be in, should be dropping by for a nite, will also visit Legoland which seems to be a bigger attraction. In addition, should be visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon and the National Motor Museum.
I can't wait to show him my routine life in HMS Sultan, although it is pretty much uneventful....Let him go through having to formal wear (tie and jacket) and dining DAILY!! That is what puts me off for dinner. Will definitely update the Blog for the long weekend. Stay tuned!

Weekend Duty & They Have Gone Sailing

Urrgg...helping a Malaysian to do his weekend duty while he is 'on course' in Washington!! Quite coolz right?? They actually have adventure training for their engineering course! Maybe I should suggest that to the NLOC in our service. Previously this course also includes an adventure training, but due to unknown reason, we had decided to shorten the course period and is to pack our bags home before the rest of the trainees go for the exciting training!!$$$$$. Nothing eventful this weekend (as usual), but hope to grab some brochures from downtown to check out the happenings around this place! Looking forward to the long weekend to come!

Project

We have to do this project on the installation of Cross Flow Fuel Filter into Watt Hangar training facilities. Basically, this is a new system to be installed in their ships which will be replacing all sorts of centrifuge/water separator etc onboard ship system. This new technology mainly consists of ceramic membranes which could clean the fuel to the required standard. This two weeks, got to rush to produce the minimum requirement for the Critical Design Review. Looking forward to the long weekend that comes after the next two weeks! I am assisting to do the cad drawings for the installations. Hopefully I could learn fast and keep it looking coolz and professional! "Talk" to you again, got to study for Electrical test tomorrow...Sigh..when will everything end...

Weekend!!

10 more weekends and I will be back home in Singapore. I am the most comfortable back with family and friends. This weekend is also quiet here, cause there is a major event up at lake district! Boy! to jog 42 miles.....don't think I will ever do that in my entire life. Anybody offering a million dollars for such a feat? Nevertheless I bet the scenery will be exhilarating. Lake District is about 6 hours drive from where I am in Gosport.
The week had been long...we did some machining work of pieces not amounting to any use. I didn't manage to get all the dimensions accurately. As they all say, this is only an appreciation course....Pretty fun using the lathing and milling machine all by myself. I must admit I am not exactly born with talents to handle the machines, the guys seem to always get the easier way out! Oh yes, just sat through my Stability Test on thursday, hope I will do better than the last two tests. Need some "pills" to boost my morale.
I am not doing anything productive today, hope to complete some work over the weekend. However, I still look forward to chatting with my parents, sister, friends and especially Kok Sung over the internet! "See" you guys!!

Happy Day

As I had mentioned, I had dropped my wedding ring (which is less than a year old) but it was miraculously found at the Secondhand Bookstore, Barter Books. Very grateful to these people! Today I recieved it, really makes my day!

The Engineer's Prayer

The Engineer's Prayer

Our props which art in Worshop,
Hallowe'd be thy shafts.
Thine PMS will come,
And greasing routines be done,
Alongside as it is at sea.
Give us this day our HP air,
And forgive those who drive ships.
Leads us not into evaporation,
But deliver us from the CO.
Main engines are our Kingdom,
4 diesels, have the power,
Forever and ever
Amen.

The Music

Bottomed the class for the last three tests. Though it is not very far off from the second last, it is discouraging enough. Sigh, rather upset. The pressure of facing the music back home is accumulating, can't imagine the disappointment.

Random Thoughts

this might is just a casual remark, nothing deep, nothing fanciful.
Have been thinking if anyone noticed this, our society is fascinated with the number three, yup "3".

Think: 3 little pigs, 3 musketeers, 3 princes of Serendip, Cerberus (3-headed guard dog of Hades), as easy as 1-2-3, genie only granting 3 wishes.

hell even movies have to be in trilogy: Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark/The Temple of Doom/The Last Crusade), Lord of the Ring, Matrix, Terminator, Alien, Rambo, etc...

In nature: 3 sisters (blue mountain, Katoomba, Australia), 3 Gorges (Yangtze, China)...
Even the Bible talks about the 3 kings and Holy Trinity.

hm...

Too Late for the Alarm?

It was 10pm,I had just bathed and was getting ready for bed. The alarm in my room sounded, wait for a few seconds, still ringing..close the windows, switch off the electrical supply, off the lights, grab my ID card, well trained during the time in midshipman school.NOPE I didn't shout "Fire!Fire!" cause I would have look like an idiot.
Dressed in just the tracksuit, hiding what is almost nothing underneath, I braved myself into the cold night. There were all not so apparent when people started to gather and walked to the front of the Wardroom. The night sky was perfect, with shimmering stars. Small talks "smothering" the sound of the ever ringing alarm and the sirens. Yup, this is not a fire drill, it is a real thing. Fortunately, no big fire found and no casulties, thank God.
If there' was really a fire, I am glad the alarm was not late.

Hey gals, have been thinking for sometime, got these gifts for Anna, Grace, Jamie and Soya. From the left starting from the top row: anchor, boatswain's pipe, dive mask and sextant. Take your pick!

WSMA

Was doing some housekeeping in my computer -- yup the digital kind not the backbreaking type -- moving some files from F:\ to C:\, defragmentating the system etc (am trying to create space to install Linux yeah), when suddenly this word document caught my eye, M4_edited.doc.

Hmm... what's that? only way to find out is to double click it. Turned out it was my wife's document from her work. Not that i am a busybody, but i decided to have a look, I had to ascertain if this file was worth keeping what, lame i know. Boy was i blown away, i finished at the first paragraph and that was it. Why? Cos i simply couldn't decipher the abbreviations contained in it no point reading, things like OOW, PPE, SMG, MEP, DED, CHA(RN), OM33, ...... my god no need for 128-bit secure encryption lah, RSN is doing a good job keeping the info secure by constantly churning out tons of abbreviations and acronyms.

Then i realised my job is just as bad. What do i do? Well in one sentence, "I am using ANN, SVM, RBF, MLP and RSM for SID". That's short for "I am using Artificial Neural Networks, Support Vector Machine, Radial Basis Functions, Multilayer Perceptron and Response Surface Method for System Identification." hahaha the wonders of abbreviations. Cannot live without them, but it's all mumbo jumbo if you're not in the loop.

okay enough of ranting. gtg. oh if you're wondering what "WSMA" stands for, it's my abbreviation for "Why So Many Abbreviations." Now you know. As for the word documents, i have decided to keep it, maybe it's important, only the RSN personnel knows.

Bright Sunny Sunday

Good morning! Woke up at 6am today, the sky is bright and cheery. Decided to go for a morning jog with Mr Sunshine up to Stokesbay, a local beach. It was good, perspiring in a cold weather (13degress celsius). Nobody on the road, even the ocassional moving car sounded really noisy.

And Yes Happy Mother's Day, especially to my Mother in Singapore!! Glad you love the sunflowers, although I was told you actually prefer the little red ones to the main flowers that are only part of the accessories? And to my Mother-in-law, can't wait to see you in your nice white set of teeth:P!

And to Anna, welcome back to Singapore. Hope you won't be sailing too soon! Keep in touch gal. Bet Grace will be calling you up soon. Heard from KS there's a sports climbing event coming up in June? All of you signed up? Sad that I am not that comfortable here with the sports ppl, miss those active life out there. Grrr..now that KS reminded me, get to prepare for IPPT.....

Another Quiet Saturday

As usual, I waited patiently for my breakfast time, I am rather sick of all these routine life of waiting for food to be served. Too bad!! All these are free and they ARE nutritious, and did I mention, the food is alsp served properly by stewards? The SUN is doing lots of work today, such a waste to be staying inside by cabin. Hm.....but the weather is still cold, SO, there you go, me, cabin and my laptop!! By the way, almost the whole wardroom is empty...all went for the Big Rugby match up in London!
Shall take this opportunity to again expressed my excitment over my found wedding ring, these ppl in Barter Bookstore are really kind. I have lost it on a trip to the faraway North England from Gosport which lies in the South. They are now sending my rind all the way back to me by postage. Alnwick will be a place I will always remember!
